LIVING LIFE IN THE SLOW LANE
Wilsonia is one of those places where you will never be at a loss for what to do – the days can be as lazy or as energetic as you like. The area is well suited to long lazy walks, or just hanging out on the verandah sipping coffee, reading books, and watching the resident herd of Nguni cattle grazing at your back door. For the more energetic, fly fishing on the farm and the surrounding areas is nothing short of superb. With enormous bass and feisty trout lurking in almost every stretch of water in the region, anglers can look forward to some exhilarating fishing with the long rod.
With hardly any traffic or the ubiquitous taxis of Gauteng on our dirt roads, enjoy a leisurely bicycle ride. For a real workout, we recommend you bring along your mountain bike and tackle one of the many trails in the area. Jared will lead a few brave souls up his favorite pass on Saturday Morning.
Horse riding trails, for beginners & pros alike, can be organized at a neighbouring farm – Lydenrust Guest Farm, giving visitors the perfect opportunity to explore the countryside. Rides generally last from one or two hours and should be booked in advance through your hosts on the farm. CLICK HERE
Game abounds on the farm, with herds of eland, blesbok, zebra and black wildebeest roaming freely. You may also catch a glimpse of the wily black-backed jackal and the shy duiker. If you are lucky, you may even spot the sleek and silent serval who hunts after dark.
The are hosts travelling kudu and waterbuck from time to time – no doubt in search of food and water. Wilsonia boasts an abundance of bird life, with frequent sightings of bald ibis and blue cranes, as well as the magnificent fish eagle. To date we have spotted 275 different species of birds and still counting….
